Every summer the doors are flung open to some of London's Royal Palaces, see how International dignitaries are shown only the most perfect hospitality by the UK's monarch. Buckingham Palace, Clarence House, Windsor Castle and Hampton Court Palace are open to the public regularly. Buckingham Palace is one of London's most iconic landmarks, and no visit to the Capital is complete without a visit to the seat of Royalty itself. The Palace became the official Royal residence of the British Monarch on the accession of Queen Victoria in 1837. The original building dated back to the Duke of Buckingham in 1703. After modest alteration to create three wings around a central counrtyard in Queen Victoria's days, the well known balcony was added in the early 20th Centry. The Palace chapel was destroyed by a bomb during World War II. The Queen's Gallery was built on the site, and first opened to the public in 1962. |
